Bushwalking & Mountain Biking

Rail trails and old logging tramways provide great opportunities for bushwalking or mountain bike riding. An old tramway route from the back of the Mountain Rivers property connects at Thomson Station with the Thomson-Erica Railway Reserve (walking, bike riding) and the Australian Alps Walking Track at the Poverty Point Bridge. There are a number of mountain bike trails around Erica. Detailed maps can be purchased in the office.

Canoeing & Fishing

The nearby Thomson River is an excellent location for white water canoeing or rafting through the Major and Minor Gorges, Triple Stager, Boulder Rapid and Four Foot Gap to Cowwarr Weir. It is also one of the six big mountain rivers in the region suitable for fly fishing, especially for trout and native blackfish.

Gold Panning

The surrounding mountains, in the last 150 years have yielded riches at goldfields such as Walhalla, Toombon, Donnelly’s Creek, Russell’s Creek and the Jordan River. Today there are still opportunities for careful gold panning and fossicking.
