Thomson Dam

Situated only a short drive from Rawson, the Thomson Reservoir is the largest of Melbourne’s reservoirs. It has a capacity of 1,068 billion litres, and makes up about 60% of Melbourne’s total storage capacity. It is one of the longest earthen fill dams in the southern hemisphere, so its well worth the drive to see. Being a domestic water supply it is not available for fishing, boating or other water sports. The chalets is very well looked after and easily accommodated 4 adults and our 4 year old son. The tourist park was a great central base for exploring the surrounding towns of Walhalla and Erica - if you happen to visit Erica we highly recommend the "1914" cafe for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
